What you'll do
- Manage staff and coordinate activities within the Metro Specimen Collection work units and actively support staff to achieve their professional and organisational goals.
- Provide expert advice to the Metro Specimen Collection Manager, to inform resource allocation and changes to the service.
- Perform quality duties relating to the role including stock control, document control, staff training and performance development review.
- Manage rosters and other payroll activities within the work unit.
- Whilst the role involves the operational supervision of the team, each supervisor is responsible for performing a broad range of specimen collection procedures consistently and accurately and maintaining competencies within all operational aspects of the Specimen Collection Department.
- Liaise with patients, medical and non-medical staff to ensure correct collection of specimens and efficient operation of the Specimen Collection Department.
About you
We are searching for someone who has:
- Advanced level of technical skills in Phlebotomy specimen collection techniques.
- Demonstrated understanding of the importance of standard precautions in dealing with patients and clinical specimens.
- Demonstrated high level of self-motivation, ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner without direct supervision, and demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, co-ordinate and train staff to provide efficient and effective services.
- Ability to plan and prioritise workload to meet the clinical need of patients and to ensure an efficient client-focused service, whilst managing supervisory duties as required.
- Demonstrated high level of interpersonal skills, commitment to teamwork, and ability to communicate effectively, including establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with medical professionals at all levels, pathology staff, and show empathy, compassion and understanding to patients.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage staff in line with quality human resource management practices with reference to Queensland Health Code of Conduct, employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety and ethical behaviour.
- Mandatory Certificate III in Pathology Specimen Collection.
- Certificate IV in Pathology Specimen Collection would be highly regarded.
