Pathology Queensland are looking for a Scientist Pathology to join their team at Gympie. As a member of a multi discipline team you will provide a 24/7 service to Gympie Hospital. The position covers all scientific and operational disciplines of a multidisciplinary laboratory providing an efficient, effective and high-quality service applying independent judgement in the analysis of patient specimens leading to the verification and validation of tests results and the provision of advice to the clinical unit where appropriate.

What you'll do
- Apply well developed multidisciplinary scientific judgement in the analysis of patient specimens leading to the verification and validation of test results and the provision of advice to the clinical unit where appropriate to ensure that the pathology service meets the requirements of Health Support Queensland.
- Provide results and scientific advice to the Sunshine Coast Health Service and other external clients relating to Haematology, Transfusion, Chemical Pathology, Microbiology Microscopy, Phlebotomy and Specimen Reception.
- Assist the laboratory to meet or exceed service delivery Key Performance Indices set for each of the services provided.
- Perform all quality duties relating to the role including document control, analyser and calibration record keeping, external quality program participation and appropriate use of internal quality control systems.
- Actively participate in the multidisciplinary team, which includes but is not limited to: attending team meetings, supporting junior staff, assisting with documentation, participating in educational activities, ensuring mandatory competencies are current, assisting and supporting supervisory staff.
- Liaise with medical and non-medical staff, answering scientific and operational enquiries and ensuring correct collection of specimens and reporting of results.
About you
We are searching for someone who has:
- A relevant recognised tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in Medical Laboratory Science.
- The ability to participate in the overnight on-call roster, during which time they must be able to be on site within half an hour when called (this thirty minutes is inclusive of both time to get ready and time to drive to the hospital).
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in performing analytical and technical aspects of common analysis including scientific interpretation in a multi discipline laboratory.
- Ability to work accurately and effectively in a multidisciplinary laboratory team with minimum supervision, including a demonstrated ability to plan and prioritise workloads according to clinical requirements and a demonstrated ability to work independently towards logical solution of scientific and technical problems.
- Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to work within a multidiscipline laboratory team the ability to communicate accurately and concisely in either written or oral forms. with customers, patients and with members of staff.
- Demonstrate ability (or ability to acquire the skill) to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ ISO accreditation / certification.
