In this role you will supervise and coordinate the Chemical Pathology service in the Toowoomba group laboratories (Charleville, Dalby, Kingaroy, Roma, Warwick, and Toowoomba) to ensure that all laboratory practices comply with Pathology Queensland requirements in providing an effective and efficient Chemical Pathology service across the Darling Downs, South West and Central West District Hospitals and Health Services.
What you'll do
- Apply specialist scientific judgement in the analysis of patient specimens leading to the verification and validation of test results and the provision of advice to the clinical unit where appropriate.
- Maintain and apply specialist knowledge, skills, experience and scientific leadership to Chemical Pathology in the Toowoomba group laboratories.
- Represent Chemical Pathology in the Toowoomba group laboratories and supervise diagnostic testing and related duties following Pathology Queensland's established accredited protocols and standards in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards.
- Represent the Toowoomba group laboratories in the Chemical Pathology Discipline Working Party and supervise the implementation of scientific practices, procedures and protocols in line with the Chemical Pathology Discipline Working Party and Pathology Queensland policies.
- Provide expert scientific advice to peers and relevant stakeholders on professional, scientific, resource and operational issues relating to service provision and provide after-hours support and advice on complex scientific and technical issues.
About you
We are searching for someone who has:
- At least a tertiary degree qualification in Medical Laboratory Science (or equivalent) from a recognised university or tertiary institution.
- A Queensland C Class Drivers licence is required, as the position involves travel across Darling Downs and South-West Queensland.
- Demonstrated ability to apply well developed scientific judgement in the analysis of patient specimens leading to the verification and validation of test results and the provision of Chemical Pathology advice to the clinical unit where appropriate.
- Demonstrated ability to provide advice to laboratory staff and District Hospital and Health Service clients on a broad range of issues pertaining to service delivery and improvement opportunities for Pathology Queensland.
- Demonstrated ability to provide scientific services to ensure the maintenance of professional clinical standards and established principles/procedures.
- Demonstrated well developed knowledge, expertise and skill in the management of Chemical Pathology in line with the strategic direction of the Toowoomba Group Laboratories.
