An exciting opportunity exists to join the leadership team at Oakey State High School as the Head of Department - Health and Physical Education for a period of 6 months, unless otherwise determined. As Head of Department - Health and Physical Education you will provide strategic leadership in curriculum development, teaching and learning, staff mentoring, and student engagement while promoting inclusive practices and supportive educational outcomes for students. Experience in leading teams, implementing contemporary pedagogical practices, and supporting extracurricular sporting and wellbeing programs will be highly regarded.

Oakey State High School, located in the centre of the Darling Downs, is a coeducational secondary school with an enrolment of more than 500 students from years 7 to 12 and a proud record of providing quality education since 1964.

About the Role:
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Lead the Health and Physical Education (HPE) department, including curriculum leadership, staff support, faculty planning and the implementation of whole-school priorities.
- Support high-quality teaching and learning practices within the HPE faculty through collaboration, coaching and curriculum development.
- Lead and support Junior Secondary transition and enrolment processes, including Year 6 into Year 7 transition programs and family engagement.
- Coordinate and monitor whole-school attendance processes, including case management and strategies to improve student attendance and engagement.
- Oversee and support the Wellbeing Program (including leading the implementation of the Resilience Project) and associated student support initiatives.
- Coordinate key student engagement and support programs and events, including:
- Developing and overseeing the whole school reading program
- Coordinate programs supporting senior phase planning, QCE readiness and student pathway development.
- Brainstorm presentations and student wellbeing initiatives
- Organise and coordinate student recognition programs, including Rewards Trips and Students of Excellence programs.
- Work collaboratively with students, families, staff and external stakeholders to support positive student outcomes, engagement and wellbeing.
- Contribute to whole-school improvement priorities and foster a positive, inclusive and supportive school culture.
