Harristown State High School has a unique opportunity for a Youth Support Coordinator to work with secondary students at risk of disengaging from education.

This position is being offered in a Temporary Part-Time capacity (0.80FTE), 58 hours per fortnight.

Successful engagement with the education system from early childhood to young adulthood is associated with positive outcomes in almost every facet of life - employment opportunities and earnings, health, family and community participation. Our priority is to ensure our schools are equipped to provide the positive and agile learning environments young people need to stay engaged.

By improving our responses to early warning signs of disengagement and implementing proactive strategies to encourage student participation, Harristown State High School's plan for youth engagement will give all young people a chance to succeed.

Harristown State High School aims for every student to succeed at school. However, some children and young people experience barriers to successful participation. Risk of disengagement can happen at any phase of secondary education. Timely and skilled interventions can support many students to get back on track.

The range of activities undertaken by the Youth Support Coordinator at Harristown State High School include:

  • Interagency collaboration and community engagement through attendance at community meetings and networking with local services
  • Identification of students at risk of disengaging
  • Case management on individual level and participation in Student Support and Wellbeing Teams
  • Development and facilitation of lunchtime programs (lunch and breakfast club) responsive student needs
  • Development and facilitation of social skills and other Student Support Programs responsive to student needs and school data
  • Being an active part of the school and wider community
