The role
The Deputy Director-General, Health Workforce provides strategic leadership in the planning and development of system-wide clinical workforce strategies to enhance health services across Queensland. Reporting to the Director-General and as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, this role offers professional leadership and expert advice to improve clinical and healthcare services statewide.
The position leverages a deep understanding of the capability challenges confronting the public health system, leading the Health Workforce Division to address the needs of both clinicians and the community. It maintains key relationships with senior clinical leaders, Hospital and Health Services, universities, industry partners, government agencies, and international professional bodies.
The successful person will have:
The successful candidate should possess significant experience in developing innovative solutions for managing complex service planning matters. They should have expertise in health and workforce planning processes, including a comprehensive understanding of population-based health planning analysis.
Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills in negotiation, consultation, facilitation, and both written and oral communication within a complex environment characterised by diverse stakeholder groups and wide-ranging competing priorities.
The individual should have a proven track record of leading, managing, implementing, and fostering organisational change, organisational effectiveness, and best practice initiatives. These efforts should have resulted in demonstrable improvements in clinical performance, organisational culture, or the outputs of a system or complex organisation.
Finally, the candidate should exhibit the ability to operate as a collegial and collaborative member of a multi-disciplinary executive team.
Additional information
It is a condition of employment for this role for the successful employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment:
- measles, mumps, rubella (MMR)
- varicella (chicken pox)
- pertussis (whooping cough)
- hepatitis B
- tuberculosis
Whilst not mandatory, a degree (or eligibility for registration) as a clinician/health professional by the Australia Health Practitioner Regulation Agency is highly desirable. Where the successful candidate holds clinical qualifications, remuneration may be negotiated.
