The role
We are seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to join the Health Workforce Division as the Senior Director, Office of the Chief Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce Officer. This is a pivotal executive role responsible for shaping and delivering a strategic First Nations health workforce agenda across Queensland.
You will lead a high-performing team and collaborate with key stakeholders—including Hospital and Health Services, government agencies, universities, and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled health sector—to grow and sustain a culturally safe, skilled, and responsive First Nations health workforce.
This role is central to influencing policy, driving reform, and ensuring that Queensland Health's workforce strategies are aligned with the broader goal of improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. You will provide strategic advice to the Minister for Health and Ambulance Services, the Director-General Queensland Health, the Chief Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce Officer and the Chief First Nations Health Officer, and represent Queensland at high-level intergovernmental forums.
The Successful Person
You are a strategic leader with a deep understanding of First Nations health and workforce development. You bring:
- Demonstrated experience in First Nations health reform, workforce policy, and program implementation.
- Proven ability to develop and deliver high-level strategic advice and influence senior decision-makers.
- Strong cultural capability and a commitment to advancing the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, with a track record of building enduring partnerships across sectors.
- A collaborative leadership style and the ability to lead teams and initiatives that deliver measurable outcomes.
You will be expected to lead with integrity, drive innovation, and foster a culture of inclusion, accountability, and excellence.
Where the successful candidate is an existing public sector employee, it may be managed through a higher duties arrangement.
