The role: 

As the Principal Project Officer, you will be responsible for contributing to the evolving performance and data reporting requirements for Delivery Services Branch Delivery Support by providing analysis, planning, and coordinating performance reporting, monitoring of risks and issues, assessment and mitigation strategies and producing business insights to support delivery services. This will include identifying improvement opportunities by ensuring the use of appropriate project management techniques, methodologies, and tools in the provision of solutions that are responsive to customer needs and sustainable across the delivery environment.

The role will also support furthering the delivery support functions, analytics and insights practices as well as the provision, maintenance, and continuous improvement of financial and project delivery reporting dashboards, reports and other data assets. You perform a lead role and provide specialist expertise and support to enable the successful delivery of large scale, complex Information Management (IM) and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) program/project(s).

Further duties include:

  • Provide technical support to the project portfolio management systems and reporting tool (Microsoft SharePoint and Power BI)
  • Manage minor and major enhancements for the project portfolio management systems and reporting tools ensuring timely and effective delivery of improvements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate requirements into detail specifications for PPM tool enhancements.
  • Produce and distribute comprehensive training materials, ensuring successful adoption of enhancements and new reporting features by all user groups.
  • Development and governance of power BI semantic models, reports and dashboards including security practices and compliance with relevant policies.
  • Develop, maintain and manage Power BI data sets, ensuring data integrity, accuracy and timely refreshes to support decision making across Delivery Services Branch
  • Development and optimisation of power BI reports and dashboards that deliver actionable insights and enable data-driven strategies within the Delivery Services Branch
  • Act as the subject matter expert for Power BI supporting the uptake of advanced analytics and visualisations of large-scale, complex Information Management (IM) and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) program/project(s).
  • Monitor and report on data quality related to program/project reporting.

Are you right for this role?

To be successful in this role you will have demonstrated analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills and an ability to coordinate multiple tasks within agreed priorities, timeframes and accountabilities. Experience in an IM/ICT project environment, including scheduling, risk management, reporting and budgeting, and an ability to coordinate the delivery of work packages.

Attention to detail is essential, to ensure information reported is correct and consistent with the underlying data and the true project situation.

You will have knowledge of appropriate project management methodologies and ability to provide advice on the use of appropriate project management techniques, methodologies and tools, with experience in, or the ability to assist with the compilation of program/project information, maintenance of program/project files and the preparation and presentation of management reports.

The preferred candidate will have knowledge of semantic models in Power BI, including row level security and general permissions management as well as Power BI queries, measures and calculated columns (Power Query M and DAX).
