The Master Planner and Scheduler role will work closely with program or project managers and key stakeholders to ensure all aspects of the program or project scope are defined. The role provides clarity on key milestones to define what, when and how activities will be organised to ensure the agreed scope of a program or project can be achieved, with the people resources available. The role will lead on all aspects of product-based planning, which will include the development, updating and monitoring of resource-based schedules. The role will also identify products, tasks, activities, dependencies and outputs for the program/project and work with the project team to track and monitor progress against the schedule until successful completion.

Key responsibilities:

As a Master Planner and Scheduler, Delivery Support Services, you will:

  • Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with Queensland Public Sector (QPS) values as outlined above.
  • Follow defined service quality standards, occupational health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
  • Facilitate planning workshops to develop product breakdown structures and product flow diagrams to identify dependencies between programs and projects.
  • Develop, analyse and maintain a master program and/or project, people resource-based schedules (including the critical path and dependencies) that align with Delivery Services Branch planning and scheduling standards.
  • Provide specialist advice on program and project planning and scheduling to ensure the optimal delivery of agreed scope.
  • Maintain and continuously improve the program and project planning and scheduling standards and practices for use across the Delivery Services Branch

Are you right for this role?

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience leading and facilitating product-based planning workshops, developing product breakdown structures, product flow diagrams and resource-based schedules, and challenging implementation timelines and identification of dependencies, both deliverables and people (preferably Managing Successful Projects using PRINCE2).
  • Demonstrated experience in a complex Information and Communication Technology (ICT) program and project environment using scheduling tools (preferably Microsoft Project/Project Online) to enable resource management, dependency management, monitoring and reporting progress against the baseline and critical path.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for improvement in schedule design and setup, whilst ensuring best practice scheduling by stage and decision points.
  • High level written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to provide specialist planning and scheduling advice and support.

Qualifications and professional certifications in the following fields will be highly desirable:

  • Facilitation and product-based planning developing product breakdown structures and product flow diagrams
  • Scheduling and Microsoft Project Online
  • Program and project management particularly Managing Successful Programmes (MSP®) and Managing Successful Projects (PRINCE2®)
