Are you an experienced senior teacher who is looking for an opportunity to move into the next level of leadership? An exciting opportunity exists to join the leadership team at Northern Peninsula Area State College (NPASC) Bamaga Senior Campus, as the Head of Department - Teaching & Learning. Curriculum expertise in English, HASS and or the Arts would be beneficial.

This is a NEW, temporary position commencing Term 2 until 5/12/2025, with the possibility of extension. The College is seeking a highly effective instructional leader who is capable of enacting and monitoring the Explicit Improvement Agenda.

This is an opportunity for an aspiring leader to continue their leadership journey as a Head of Department at the College and build a rewarding career educating students in this unique environment.

About the Area and the College
Considered the gateway to the Torres Strait, the Northern Peninsula Area (NPA) region is a narrow peninsula bordered by the Coral Sea in the east, the Arafura Sea and Gulf of Carpentaria to the west and the Torres Strait to the north. The NPA region is made up of five First Nations communities; Injinoo, Umagico, Bamaga, New Mapoon and Seisia; each with its own history, languages and traditions strongly influenced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage.

The Northern Peninsula Area State College (NPASC) is a K-12 College with 3 campuses. Amy Mary Eseli Injinoo Campus and Bamaga Junior Campus are primary campuses which have Kindy to Year 6, while the Years 7 - 12 secondary needs are met by the Bamaga Senior Campus.

Your opportunity
As the Head of Department, you will:

  • Lead curriculum focus in line with school and departmental initiatives
  • Participate in delivering the vision of State Schools Division
  • Develop the quality of teaching and learning
  • Nurture positive relationships between students, teachers and stakeholders.

The Head of Department is accountable to and under the direction of the Principal or delegate (Head of Campus).

Your responsibilities

As the Head of Department - Teaching and Learning, you will have responsibility for leading the following activities and delivery of the following key tasks:

  • Lead the school department to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
  • Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
  • Set high standards for student and staff performance.
  • Actively participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
  • Form partnerships with students, parents, other government agencies, and community groups.
  • Be futures oriented and strategic.
  • Understand the legislation and policies that impact on schooling especially in relation to students and staff within the school department.
