About the School
Balaclava State School is a Prep to Year 6 school in central Cairns, focused on building strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, and lifelong learning. We use proven, research-based teaching methods and deliver a broad curriculum including English, Mathematics, Science, Technology, HASS, HPE, and The Arts. We value respect, high expectations, and strong community connections, preparing students to be independent, creative, and confident learners ready for the future.
Your Opportunity
As the Head of Department (Curriculum), you will:
- Lead curriculum focus in line with school and departmental initiatives
- Participate in delivering the vision of State Schools Division
- Develop the quality of teaching and learning
- Nurture positive relationships between students, teachers and stakeholders.
The Head of Department (Curriculum) is accountable to and under the direction of the Principal or delegate.
Your Responsibilities
As the Head of Department (Curriculum), your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Lead curriculum development across P-6
- Drive reading development in P-2 and 3-6 teaching teams
- Provide guidance to teaching staff in the planning and delivery of curriculum and assessment
- Develop, articulate, and commit to a shared educational vision focused on providing quality learning outcomes for all students
- Embed The Resilience Project values in daily school life
- Set high standards for student and staff performance
- Actively participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development
- Work with students, parents, community groups, and agencies to deliver quality education and support in a Partnership Initiative School
- Be futures-oriented and strategic
