About the School 

Parramatta State School, located in central Cairns, is a diverse and inclusive Prep to Year 6 school committed to high expectations and success for all students. We deliver the Australian Curriculum with a strong focus on cultural inclusion, Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL), and community engagement. Our Early Childhood Development Program supports young children with disabilities across the Cairns region.

Your Opportunity 

As the Head of Special Education Services, you will: 

  • Promote an inclusive culture and practices within the school community to ensure equity and excellence for students with disability.
  • Develop and support a high quality of teaching and adjustments for students with disability in accordance to related legislation and policies.

The Head of Special Education reports to the Principal. 

Desirable Skills
The following skills are desirable but not mandatory:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of early childhood organisations and their role in supporting students with special needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across various teams.
  • Proven ability to build staff capacity and lead professional learning initiatives.
  • Commitment to working closely with families and regional education staff to create a holistic support network.

Your Responsibilities 

As the Head of Special Education Services , your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:  

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Special Education Services within the school.
  • Collaborate effectively with school staff, regional teams, and external early childhood organisations to ensure best practices in special education.
  • Build the capability of school staff through mentoring, professional development, and coaching.
  • Foster strong, supportive relationships with families of students with disabilities, ensuring their engagement and involvement in the educational journey.
  • Promote a culture of inclusion and support that empowers all students to achieve their full potential.
