Expressions of Interest are invited for a Guidance Officer to join the Secondary leadership team at Western Cape College - Weipa. This temporary full-time position is available for the remainder of the 2025 school year (unless otherwise determined).

Support student wellbeing, engagement and achievement through specialist advice, targeted programs and collaborative partnerships across the school and community.

Relocation assistance may be negotiated, subsidised departmental accommodation and remote incentives apply.

The Western Cape College is a unique state school with two campuses located in Mapoon (P-6), and Weipa (P-12), as well as a secondary residential facility also located in Weipa. Your Role

As a key member of the school community, the Guidance Officer provides professional expertise, leadership, and support to enhance student engagement, wellbeing, and achievement. This role focuses on proactive, preventative, and responsive strategies to support students' personal, social, emotional, and educational development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering counselling, assessment and advice to support students' learning, behaviour, mental health, and career development
  • Collaborating with school staff, families, and external agencies to coordinate case management, referrals, and tailored student support
  • Conducting psychoeducational assessments and contributing to educational planning and interventions
  • Supporting the implementation of student protection, behaviour support, and risk management processes
  • Providing leadership in response to critical incidents, transitions, and student reintegration into learning pathways

This role plays a vital part in creating safe, inclusive and supportive learning environments that foster resilience and lifelong learning.
