This position is a temporary position starting in Term 4, 2025 until the end of Term 6 2026.

About the College, the Campus and Yorke Island
Masig Island Campus is one of the 16 Primary campuses that make up Tagai State College. These campuses are spread across 48,000 square kilometres of ocean in the Torres Strait. The College also has a Secondary campus and partners with the TAFE campus located on Thursday Island.
The current enrolment at Tagai State College - Masig Campus, is approximately 45 students ranging in year levels from Kindergarten to Year 6. The campus has 2 teachers, teacher aides, local staff and a teaching Head of Campus. For most students, English is an additional language. This role is supervised by the Head of School who is based on Thursday Island.
Yorke Island is a coral cay situated in the Eastern area of the central island group in the Torres Strait, 2.7km in length and 800m at its widest point. The traditional language of Yorke Islands is a local dialect of Kalaw Lagaw Ya and the island has a population of around 250 people.
The Role
Language and cultural activities play an integral part in the school curriculum. The College is seeking a highly effective instructional leader who is capable of enacting and monitoring the Explicit Improvement agenda. This is an opportunity for a high accomplished leader and or a capable aspiring leader to continue their leadership journey as the Head of Campus of this school and build a rewarding career educating students in this unique environment.
Tagai State College provides a high level of support to leaders through a support team of experienced educators.
As the Head of Campus you will:
- deliver the vision of the department
- improve the educational outcomes of students in their schools
- develop the quality of teaching and learning
- nurture positive relationships between students, teachers, the community and stakeholders.
The Head of Campus at Masig is a teaching Head of Campus role. The suitable applicant must be able to demonstrate capability to meet the accountabilities of a quality teacher and has demonstrated leadership capability to lead a Campus.
Role acountabilites and responsibilities
You will have responsibility for leading the following activities and delivery of the following key tasks:
- Lead the school community to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
- Uphold the principalship as a values based, ethical and moral activity.
- Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
- Set high standards for student and staff performance.
- Active participants in life long learning and ongoing professional development.
- Form partnerships with parents, other government agencies, community groups, industry and business.
- Futures oriented and strategic.
- Understand the legislation and policies that impact on schooling.
- Manage resources to achieve goals.
