Redlynch State College is seeking an experienced and dedicated Science Technician to join our dynamic team.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to support high-quality science teaching and learning by ensuring safe, efficient, and innovative laboratory operations.

This position is being offered in a Permanent Part-Time capacity (0.6 FTE), 43.50 hours per fortnight.

This is a progressional position as per the Role Description. The successful applicant will be appointed to the lower classification with eligibility for progression to the next, once specific criteria have been met or demonstrated. Please note salary rate shown is reflective of both classification ranges.

About your Role:

As a Science Technician, you will play a key role in supporting the effective and safe delivery of science education across the College. Working closely with the Head of Department - Science, teaching staff, and laboratory team, you will provide technical expertise, resource management, and laboratory support to enhance student engagement and outcomes in science.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Prepare, distribute, and set up scientific equipment, chemical solutions, and materials for practical classes.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organised laboratories, storerooms, and preparation areas.
  • Manage, store, and dispose of chemicals and laboratory waste safely, following departmental guidelines.
  • Assist teachers and students with the safe use of equipment during practical activities and field trips.
  • Support STEM initiatives to enhance student engagement and career pathways.
  • Maintain accurate records, including stock control, registers, and budgets.
  • Liaise with suppliers, obtain quotes, and coordinate orders for equipment and consumables.
  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Provide innovative problem-solving and technical advice to support curriculum delivery

Ideal Attributes:

  • Strong technical knowledge and experience in science laboratory operations.
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks efficiently in a busy environment.
  • Knowledge of safe laboratory practices, chemical handling, and WHS standards.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with staff, students, and external partners.
  • Commitment to fostering safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environments.
