The Department of Education is seeking a Clinical Nurse to fill a permanent part-time position (0.3 FTE or 22.8 hours per fortnight) in the Far North Queensland Region. The Clinical Nurse Consultant will provide nursing supervision, leadership and support for a team of Clinical Nurses, to ensure quality nursing services that ensure safe participation and access for Queensland State School students with health support needs. The position will be based at a school in the Cairns city area and will require travel to other locations (which may include overnight stay) in Far North Queensland.

Your opportunity
Clinical Nurses Consultants play a pivotal role in supporting our Clinical Nurses to create a safe supportive environment for students with health needs. Using advanced critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills, they provide tailored support and supervision to our departmental nurses, breaking down barriers to enhance wellbeing and bridging the gap between health care and education. Regular travel between base and school/other locations is a requirement of the position therefore the incumbent must possess a current C class driver's licence.
About the Role:
Responsibilities include, but not limited to;
- Leadership and Supervision: Provide professional supervision, guidance, and advocacy for departmental nurses, ensuring safe, effective, and evidence-based nursing practices within educational settings.
- Recruitment and Development: Contribute to the recruitment, selection, induction, performance development, and ongoing professional learning of nursing staff to support excellence in service delivery.
- Clinical Practice and Collaboration: Participate in and oversee clinical service delivery, fostering collaborative, multidisciplinary practice with regional and school personnel to meet students' health needs.
- Policy, Quality, and Risk Management: Lead and advise on the development, implementation, and review of nursing policies, procedures, and standards, providing expert risk management and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
- Representation and Documentation: Represent the department on committees and interdisciplinary teams, and ensure accurate, secure documentation and record management in accordance with departmental policies.
