Trinity Bay State High School is seeking an energetic, reliable, and motivated individual to join our Grounds and Facilities team. This role plays a key part in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and well-presented learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. This hands-on position offers a balance of independent work and collaboration, undertaking a range of daily grounds and general maintenance duties. This is a temporary full-time position, commencing as soon as possible through to 11 December 2026, unless otherwise determined.

About Us:

Trinity Bay state High School provides a secondary education for both boys and girls from years 7 to 12. The school attracts students from all over the city but primarily from eight (8) local schools. The school draws students from the surrounding 'three M' suburbs of Manoora, Manunda and Mooroobool. In addition, the school attracts students from a large cross section Cairns suburbs including, City View, Kanimbla, Whitfield, Edge Hill, Brinsmead, Freshwater and Redlynch.

About the Role:

Responsibilities include, but not limited to;

  • A range of day to day activities that include maintenance of school ovals through regular mowing, watering and soil maintenance; lawn and garden maintenance, including regular weeding and the use of appropriate insecticides and fertilisers where necessary; plant, water and care for trees, shrubs, gardens; and undertake general maintenance of grounds care equipment such as mowers, brush cutters, tractors (as per manufacturers' service manuals) and arrange regular services.
  • Ensure compliance with WHS requirements including maintenance of a safe work environment, safe storage and handling of chemicals, fertilisers and fuel.
  • Ability to conduct minor repairs and maintenance to Grounds and Facilities (except jobs that require qualified tradesperson).
  • Support with a variety of security duties at the school that involve using and maintaining the school security systems; and locking and unlocking buildings and gates (within core hours).
  • Assist with a range of duties that include coordinating the removal and/or disposal of rubbish as required.
