Student Support Officer - Mossman State High School

Mossman State High School is seeking a Student Support Officer for a temporary full-time position for a period of 12 months, unless otherwise determined. As the Student Support Officer, you will need to have a proven capability to build positive relationships with all students, parents and the community. The Student Support Officer will be required to adopt a strength-based approach to support students to build their resilience and ability to respond positively at school, support restorative practices at the school, and assist the students to engage with internal and external support systems within the school as required.

About the Role:
The purpose of this role is to provide support around positive behaviour for learning at the school. The Student Support Officer will provide initial support to students and contact parents as required.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to;
- Design and implement innovative data collection and monitoring systems to inform targeted intervention strategies that support student attendance, behaviour, and wellbeing.
- Build and sustain positive, culturally responsive relationships with students, families, community members, and Elders, contributing to local decision-making processes to achieve optimal outcomes.
- Proactively engage with families through regular communication and home visits to encourage school attendance and address educational, social, emotional, or behavioural concerns.
- Monitor student behaviour and wellbeing, identify emerging issues, and coordinate timely and appropriate interventions within a team-based management approach.
- Lead initiatives that foster a positive, caring, and supportive school environment, acting as an independent mediator to strengthen communication and resolve concerns among students, families, and the wider community.
