An opportunity exists for a motivated and dynamic individual to join the Mossman State High School team as the Head of Department - Technologies. The role offers the opportunity to lead the curriculum area of Technologies (Design and Technologies and Digital Technologies), support staff development and make a meaningful impact in a rural school community. This is a temporary full-time position until 11 December 2026, unless otherwise determined.

Who we are:

Mossman State High School is situated approximately 1 hour north of Cairns, where the rainforest meets the reef. As the only state high school in the Douglas Shire, we are committed to providing the opportunity for every child to experience a sense of belonging and pride and find their future pathway.

About the Role:

The Head of Department - Technologies will play a leading role as a member of our Mossman State High School Leadership Team. The successful applicant will be responsible for leading the development and delivery of curriculum and learning that enriches the lives of all students.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to;

  • Lead the Technologies faculty to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
  • Lead quality assurance processes for the implementation of the Version 9.0 Australian Curriculum
  • Oversee the practical aspects of the Technology curriculum by setting high standards for safety in both the workshop and kitchen.
  • Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
  • Set high standards for student and staff performance.
  • Actively participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
  • Form partnerships with students, parents, other government agencies, and community groups.
