Expressions of Interest are invited for a temporary full-time Head of Department (Curriculum) opportunity at Laura State School until 4 December 2026, unless otherwise determined.
This role leads curriculum excellence by driving high-quality, inclusive curriculum planning and instructional practice that meets the highly individualised curriculum needs of every student.
Working collaboratively with staff, you will provide strategic leadership and coaching to strengthen evidence-informed teaching, personalised learning pathways and student outcomes. Knowledge and experience in primary school reading implementation
is essential.

This temporary full-time position until 4 December 2026, is open to Expressions of Interest and any extensions to this appointment will not exceed 12 months.

Your opportunity
Located in the rural community of Laura on Cape York Peninsula, Laura State School offers a close-knit teaching environment focused on inclusive practice, personalised learning and strong community connection.
As the Head of Department - Curriculum at Laura State School, you will:
- Provide curriculum leadership across Kindy - Year 6 to ensure high-quality, highly individualised teaching and learning aligned to the Australian Curriculum Version 9 and departmental priorities.
- Lead collaborative planning, capability building, and evidence-informed practice to support students with intellectual disability, autism, complex communication needs and additional health or sensory needs.
