About the School

Balaclava State School is a diverse Prep-6 school in central Cairns. Our school offers the opportunity to work within a large and diverse Far North Queensland education community, with access to professional networks, specialist services and collaborative partnerships across the region.

About the Role

As Deputy Principal, you will provide strategic leadership in curriculum, pedagogy and assessment across Prep to Year 2, ensuring alignment with school and departmental priorities.  

A key focus of the role is mentoring and supporting beginning teachers to build capability and confidence in delivering effective teaching practices. 

  • You will lead case management for students with diverse learning and wellbeing needs, analyse student performance data to inform decision-making, and drive continuous improvement in student outcomes.
  • You will also coordinate key school events and initiatives, strengthen partnerships with students, staff, families and the wider community, and contribute to school improvement, staff development and effective school operations.
  • You will demonstrate innovative and strategic leadership, build and sustain effective relationships, and use data-informed practices to improve student learning and wellbeing outcomes.
