We are seeking a Senior Guidance Officer who will be a regionally based specialist within the Rapid Support Team (RST) service model, delivering a predominantly telephone-based service to parents and carers of state schooling children, across Queensland. The role is non-school based and works in partnership with parents and carers rather than on behalf of schools. The Parent Navigator primarily supports families who are seeking support regarding a bullying prevention or response matter. This is a temporary full-time position until 30 June 2027, unless otherwise determined.

About the Role:

Responsibilities include, but not limited to;

  • Accept and manage referrals providing service to parents and carers from any region of Queensland in recognition of the predominantly telephone-based delivery model and the principle of equitable statewide access.
  • Help parents and carers to clarify their concerns, understand the school's role and the relevant departmental policies and processes, prepare parents and carers to engage constructively with the school and regional support services to prevent and respond to bullying concerns..
  • Identify, document and escalate any immediate safety, child protection or wellbeing concerns in accordance with departmental policy and mandatory reporting obligations.
  • Participate in regular professional supervision with the Central Office Senior Guidance Officer, raise complex matters proactively, and contribute to continuous improvement of Parent Navigator practice.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with regional Principal Advisor Rapid Support, regional wellbeing, mental health, inclusion and guidance staff, central office RST team and procured service provider.
  • Maintain confidentiality within legal and safety limits, manage information shared by parents and schools in accordance with privacy obligations, and document ethical considerations for supervision.
