The role

Reporting to the Executive Manager, Quality, you will operationally manages the Training Team to oversee and apply FSQ's training framework. Applying your knowledge of both science workforce requirements and challenges, and educational and training principles and methodologies, in a complex scientific environment, you will:

  • Build and manage the Training team, providing expert and authoritative advice and leadership
  • Develop and maintain training programs that lead our scientists on a journey from trainee to subject matter expert
  • Coordinate competency-based training to ensure robust, scientific expertise is developed and maintained across the FSQ workforce
  • Lead and engage FSQ training workforce stakeholders on FSQ scientific training reform strategies
  • Manage resources to facilitate innovative scientific training activities
  • Successfully apply a project management approach to complex scientific workforce and education initiatives

The successful person

You will have:

  • A Bachelor degree or higher in forensic science, applied science, medical science, or a relevant field from a recognised tertiary institution
  • Preferably a relevant qualification in education or learning and development
  • A high-level understanding of the trends and challenges of the scientific workforce in the delivery and quality, safe, effective, and timely scientific services
  • A high-level understanding of educational and training principles and methodologies
  • High level communication, consultation, negotiation and interpersonal skills s and expertise in the preparation of reports and briefing of a substantial and complex nature
  • A successful track record in a senior position working with leaders and staff facilitating effective change management and fostering a culture of quality and organisational improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully apply a project management approach to complex scientific workforce initiatives, coupled with demonstrated expertise to lead and manage projects to achieve organisation wide outcomes
  • Evidence of required vaccination

About us
Located at Coopers Plains, Brisbane, FSQ operates specialised Forensic Biology, Forensic Chemistry and Forensic Operations functions that provides forensic services and expert advice to the Queensland Police Service (QPS) and the Coroner's Court of Queensland.

Our work at FSQ involves exposure to material related to deaths and criminal offences that may be confronting, due to its graphic and personal nature. Sensitive and professional management of exhibits and information is a critical requirement of this role. The successful candidate will have personal qualities that include well developed resilience, tact and effective strategies for managing themselves and their ability to support colleagues in situations that may be distressing and stressful.

Please note that Forensic Science Queensland has recently been through a Machinery of Government change, and as of 1 July 2024, was administratively assigned to the Department of Justice.
