The role
The Assistant Business Manager will support senior management by coordinating and managing financial, human resource management and procurement processes for the division. You will provide quality assurance in the form of valuable and ethical compliance and governance, assisting management's decision-making processes, and timely coordination of business support functions to enable business continuity and success.
With a strong focus on system and process improvements and customer service, you will also:
- Lead, manage and support business support staff to ensure all administrative and business processes are completed to a high standard
- Advise, consult, and negotiate with senior managers in the coordination and management of the budget and other business support activities
- Manage, prepare, monitor, and report on finance, compliance, human resources, information management, procurement, and contract management matters
- Prepare reports and correspondence and initiate action associated with financial, administrative, human resources and other matters

The successful person
You will have:
- Expert knowledge and experience in the interpretation and application of contemporary financial management, human resource and procurement legislation, policies, and frameworks.
- Experience in successfully leading, managing and developing a diverse team within a high-pressure environment.
- Proven ability in developing and implementing business improvement initiatives to directly enhance service delivery outcomes and expectations.
- High level consultative, interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills including the ability to direct and influence others through the provision of advice and preparation of reports, briefs, recommendations, and proposals.
- Conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills to identify and interpret issues and develop quality options and strategies to resolve complex executive and business matters.
- Personal resilience and adaptability and a professional, credible, customer and solutions focussed approach
About us
Located at Coopers Plains, Brisbane, FSQ operates specialised Forensic Biology, Forensic Chemistry and Forensic Operations functions that provides forensic services and expert advice to the Queensland Police Service (QPS) and the Coroner's Court of Queensland.
Our work at FSQ involves exposure to material related to deaths and criminal offences that may be confronting, due to its graphic and personal nature. Sensitive and professional management of exhibits and information is a critical requirement of this role. The successful candidate will have personal qualities that include well developed resilience, tact and effective strategies for managing themselves and their ability to support colleagues in situations that may be distressing and stressful.
Please note that following a Machinery of Government (MoG) change, as of 1 July 2024, Forensic Science Queensland was administratively assigned to the Department of Justice.
