The role 

Reporting to the Deputy Director, Corporate Operations, the Project Officer will undertake a range of tasks and projects in relation to governance, risk, project management and process improvement.

With a focus on innovative business improvement and efficiencies, you will:

  • Work collaboratively and effectively with other team members, multi-disciplinary personnel and stakeholder groups to achieve project outcomes.
  • Provide critical advice and administrative support to the team and senior management including secretariat support, managing confidential information and coordinating stakeholder meetings and logistics
  • Assist the Deputy Director, Corporate Operations in managing reporting, correspondence and analysis of financial information, as well as assist in preparing reports, submissions, briefing notes, ministerial correspondence and policy documentation as required to inform asset management decision-making
  • Streamline correspondence methodologies and electronic records management for the unit
  • Assist to develop, implement and maintain adequate policy, processes, systems and internal controls to ensure effective governance and compliance
  • Ensure projects and tasks are managed in accordance with the best practice guidelines and FSQ's asset management approach to ensure consistent and quality outcomes are achieved
  • Develop and maintain effective, respectful and diplomatic working relationships with internal and external stakeholders on all project related matters

The successful person

You will have demonstrable ability to:

  • Provide high level project support to a fast-paced business unit/branch in a complex area of operation
  • See tasks through to completion and work with agreed priorities to achieve quality outcomes
  • Escalate or seek feedback and guidance from supervisor when required
  • Contribute to the development of plans, strategies and team goals, with an ability to identify issues and problem that may impact on work objectives
  • Work successfully with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all views have been understood
  • Apply a collaborative, diverse and cohesive approach to the management of tasks and projects
  • Effectively communicate in both written and verbal modes, with strong liaison and interpersonal skills
  • Use a range of contemporary computerised systems, including Outlook, Word, MS Excel, and electronic records management

About us

Located at Coopers Plains, Brisbane, FSQ operates specialised Forensic Biology, Forensic Chemistry and Forensic Operations functions that provides forensic services and expert advice to the Queensland Police Service (QPS) and the Coroner's Court of Queensland.

Our work at FSQ involves exposure to material related to deaths and criminal offences that may be confronting, due to its graphic and personal nature. Sensitive and professional management of exhibits and information is a critical requirement of this role. The successful candidate will have personal qualities that include well developed resilience, tact and effective strategies for managing themselves and their ability to support colleagues in situations that may be distressing and stressful.

Please note that following a Machinery of Government (MoG) change, as of 1 July 2024, Forensic Science Queensland was administratively assigned to the Department of Justice.
