About the role

The Senior Staff Specialist or Staff Specialist role provides clinical specialist Psychiatry support to the Specialist Programs and Alcohol and Other Drugs Service (SPAODS), making a substantial contribution to the development of a culture of medical education and safe, effective patient centered clinical practice.

The Medical Director SPAODS role provides clinical care to patients and clinically manages on a day-to-day basis the associated multidisciplinary patient care team to ensure the delivery of appropriate patient care. In addition, the role provides professional leadership to the department and training, education and supervision to junior medical staff and other health care members.

Requirements for the role

  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B.
  • Tuberculosis screening - to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required.
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed.
  • MBBS or equivalent registrable with the Medical Board of Australia plus FRANZCP or equivalent acceptable to the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and registrable as a Psychiatry specialist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Internationally trained candidates may require an acceptable Comparability Assessment undertaken by the appropriate Australian Specialist Medical College as part of the application process.
  • Relevant qualification/s and registration must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
  • A Certificate of Advanced Training in Addiction Psychiatry or Certificate of Advanced Training in Forensic Psychiatry is preferred.
  • Strong clinical and teaching experience in Addiction or Forensic Psychiatry.
  • The incumbent will be required to participate in an after-hours and on-call roster for MHSS.
  • Senior Staff Specialists or Staff Specialists report operationally to the Medical Director of the relevant clinical service line and professionally to the Chief Medical Officer.
  • The Medical Director reports operationally to the Clinical Director MHSS and professionally to the Chief Medical Officer.

Salary information

  • Permanent full time Staff Specialist with Temporary full time Medical Director component
  • Estimated total remuneration up to $447,016 p.a., comprising:
    • Senior Staff Specialist: Base salary from $251,527 - $266,677 p.a
    • Staff Specialist: Base salary from $210,332 - $244,313 p.a
  • Up to 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • Motor vehicle allowance
