 The Role

An opportunity has become available for a Clinical Nurse Consultant (Older Persons Mental Health Community) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 12 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.

You will

  • Provide high level independent mental health services including a high level of assessment, collaborative treatment planning and case management
  • Provide high level clinical leadership and advocacy for the mental health needs of service consumers and their carers
  • Provide high level expertise of comprehensive and flexible mental health service in a specialised area of clinical practice involving the delivery of an assertive outreach service
  • Apply independent professional judgement, based on valid and reliable evidence, and apply relevant legislation, guidelines and standards, to a complex caseload

About you

To be successful in this position you will require:

  • A Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent
  • Registration with the Nursing Midwifery Board of Australia
  • Credentialed through the College of Mental Health Nurses (or be prepared to work towards a credential in Mental Health Nursing)
  • A Masters or higher qualification within a relevant area is highly desirable
  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
  • Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
  • Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

Salary

  • Permanent full time
  • Base salary ranging from $132 562 - $143 924 per annum

About Us

The Older Persons Mental Health Community Team service provides specialised, community-based multi-disciplinary services, including mental health assessment and treatment, for adults over the age of 65 years (>55 years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) who have a severe and complex mental illness, which is complicated by problems related to ageing.

The service engages with consumers in their own home or residential aged care facilities and works collaboratively with specialist aged care services. Support is provided to consumers, their families, and carers across the broad continuum of care, including facilitating smooth transition to other appropriate services.
