 About The Gold Coast Intellectual, Developmental Disability Mental Health Service 

The IDD mental health team is a new, specialist, community-based mental health service. We provide high level support, education, and training to consumers, families/carers, and treating teams, and advanced healthcare to young people and adults with complex neurodevelopmental conditions and co-occurring mental health disorders.

About Your New Role

In this new and impactful role, you'll work closely with specialist consultant psychiatrists, Allied Health and clinical teams to support mental health service delivery for consumers with intellectual and developmental disabilities. With a short-term, focused model of involvement, you'll advocate for sustainable care by upskilling treating teams to continue support. You'll access statewide, specialist education through the Queensland Centre of Excellence, then bring that knowledge back to your team—delivering training, driving service improvements, and working alongside consultants to embed lasting change.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Advanced specialised knowledge, clinical skill, and proficiency in the delivery of mental health nursing for cognitive, developmental, neurological, psychiatric, and sensory disabilities across the lifespan.
  • Deliver advanced level discipline specific mental health assessments, formulations, brief interventions (desensitisation work, graded exposure, social stories), positive behaviour support plans, and support for primary treating teams for effective and timely care coordination and discharge planning.
  • Provide skilled coordination of nursing care and leadership qualities demonstrating advanced knowledge of contemporary nursing practice and theory, participating directly and indirectly delivering clinical care.
  • Contribute to the development, evaluation, and implementation of the Model of Service Delivery for the GCIDDMHS, ensuring effective and efficient delivery of care.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor of Nursing or Equivalent is mandatory
  • Credentialed through the College of Mental Health Nurses (or be prepared to work towards a credential in Mental Health Nursing)
  • A Masters or higher qualification within a relevant area is highly desirable
  • AHPRA Registration
  • Driver Licence
  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
  • Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
  • Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

Salary

  • Permanent part time and temporary part time (64 hrs p.f, temporary part time for 6 months, with the possibility of extension)
  • Base salary ranging from $66.85 - $72.58 per hour
