The Role

An opportunity has become available for a Clinical Nurse Consultant (Respiratory) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 12 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia. 

You will 

  • Provide advanced clinical expertise in respiratory nursing and ventilation strategies
  • Demonstrate exceptional critical thinking and high-level problem-solving skills
  • Apply high-level communication skills to effectively liaise with multidisciplinary teams
  • Work autonomously and prioritise patient care efficiently 

About you

To be successful in this position you will require:

  • Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent  
  • Registration with the Nursing Midwifery Board of Australia
  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
  • Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
  • Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

Salary

  • Permanent part time (64 hrs p.f.)
  • Base salary ranging from $66.86 - $72.59 per hour.

About Us

The Gold Coast University Hospital Respiratory Inpatient Unit (IPU) specialises in the management of adults with acute and complex respiratory and pulmonary conditions including Cystic Fibrosis. 

The 24-bed unit provides comprehensive care to patients inclusive but not limited to respiratory support, cardiac monitoring and medical management. The respiratory unit collaborates with the Lung Function Service, Sleep Laboratory, and Interventional Suites to provide comprehensive respiratory diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.

The IPU includes a six bed Respiratory Higher Care Unit (RHCU) for patients presenting with higher acuity and complex care needs, including non-invasive ventilation (NIV), high-risk pulmonary embolism (PE) requiring telemetry, high-risk motor neuron disease (MND), complicated intercostal chest (ICC) drains requiring lysis, tracheostomy management, and high-risk ICU step-down patients. The RHCU has a 1:2 IPU Nurse ratio.
