The Role
An opportunity has become available for a Carer Peer Coordinator - Senior (Identified Lived Experience) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 12 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.
You will
- Serve as a positive role model to consumers and staff and as a source of information on their personal experience of managing their mental health
- Work within appropriate boundaries and draw on knowledge and expertise gained through reflection on own lived experience.
- Effectively communicate with consumers, carers, professional groups, and all service providers
- Identify areas for improvement to service, policy and procedures, and be involved in Mental Health Service policy and procedure development
About you
To be successful in this position you will require:
- The incumbent must identify as a family and/or carer of a person they identify as a mental health consumer. It is preferable this lived-living experience perspective includes substantial knowledge of mental health, trauma, suicidality, and/or addiction vulnerabilities, service systems, service use and personal recovery journey of their loved one within a Health Hospital Service and/or community public health services
- It would be well regarded if the applicant also holds a Certificate IV in Mental Health and/or similar qualifications or higher including educational qualifications such as a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or higher
- While not mandatory, significant experience leading teams, providing professional lead supervision, providing co-reflective learning and facilitation education to 'Identified' Lived Experience (Peer) Workforce and to non identified colleagues and community would be well regarded
- Driver Licence
- Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
- Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
- Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
- Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

- Base salary ranging from $105 568 - $114 861 per annum

Mental Health and Specialist Services Lived-Living Experience (Peer) Workforce team provides a responsive program of recovery-oriented, trauma informed, and strengths based, lived-living experience peer engagement, education, and information for consumers, families, relatives, unpaid carers and natural supports. The team's goal is to increase consumer, family, relatives, unpaid carer and natural supports participation in the consultation, feedback, planning, delivery and evaluation of mental health specialist services, alcohol and other drugs service.
