Gold Coast Health is seeking two qualified Senior Environmental Health Officer to join our Public Health Unit temporary full-time role (up to 31 March 2027). This position offers the opportunity to lead environmental health projects, conduct complex investigations, and respond to public health emergencies across the Gold Coast region. About Your New Team

The Public Health Unit delivers services including:

  • Communicable disease surveillance, prevention, and control
  • Environmental health monitoring and enforcement
  • Health promotion and education programs
  • Response to public health incidents and major events

What you'll be doing

As a Senior Environmental Health Officer, you will:

  • Mentor junior staff and support workforce development
  • Conduct investigations under public health legislation and recommend enforcement actions
  • Respond to public health incidents, disasters, and disease outbreaks
  • Provide expert advice and prepare detailed reports on complex health issues
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to implement public health initiatives

Requirements for the role

  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Health (accredited by Environmental Health Australia or deemed eligible by the QLD Health Environmental Health Officer Appointments Review Committee)
  • Have or be willing to complete a Certificate IV in Government Investigations
  • Be willing to complete Queensland Health Authorised Officer training
  • Current driver's licence and ability to operate a government vehicle
  • Must be physically fit as the role involves lifting and carrying duties
  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
  • Tuberculosis screening, to identify if tuberculosis vaccination may be required
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
  • Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (paid by GCH)

Salary

  • Temporary full time (two positions, up to 18 months with possibility of extension)
  • Base salary ranging from $128 169 - $137 918 per annum
