Gold Coast Health is seeking two qualified Environmental Health Officers to join our Public Health Unit temporary full-time role (up to 31 March 2027 with the possibility of extension). This position offers the opportunity to deliver environmental health services that protect, promote and prevent risks to individuals and the community from environmental hazards.

  • Communicable disease surveillance, prevention, and control
  • Environmental health monitoring and enforcement

What You'll Be Doing

As an Environmental Health Officer, you will:

  • Deliver environmental health services as part of a broader public health program
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate environmental health projects, compliance programs, and health risk assessments
  • Monitor, investigate, and enforce public health legislation in line with policy and contemporary practice
  • Provide timely advice and support to managers, stakeholders, and the community

Requirements for the role

  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Health (accredited by Environmental Health Australia or deemed eligible by the QLD Health Environmental Health Officer Appointments Review Committee)
  • Have or be willing to complete a Certificate IV in Government Investigations
  • Be willing to complete Queensland Health Authorised Officer training
  • Must be physically fit as the role includes lifting and carrying
  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
  • Tuberculosis screening, to identify if tuberculosis vaccination may be required
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
  • Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (paid by GCH)
  • Current driver's licence and ability to operate a government vehicle

Salary

  • Temporary full time (two positions, up to 31 March 2027 with possibility of extension)
  • Base salary ranging from $79 051 - $116 189 per annum
