Theatre Patient Support Officer
South Brisbane
Provide efficient and effective services within the Queensland Childrens Hospital. Be responsible for a wide range of support services in an Operating Theatre environment. Deliver a high level of customer service, demonstrating understanding, empathy, patience, and a positive attitude. This position will be trained in all aspects of the general PSO role and may be required to work across all clinical and non-clinical areas, including but not limited to cleaning, porterage, waste, and sustainability services.

Role Details
- Setting up Operating Theatres with equipment appropriate to different operations.
- Transport Operating Theatre equipment requiring repair to Biomedical Technology Services (BTS) and returning to Operating Theatre once repaired.
- Cleaning duties which will include the cleaning of Operating Theatres and associated areas to Infection Control Standards, general and periodic cleaning tasks include walls, windows, ceiling, furniture, and fittings, sweeping, dusting, vacuuming, polishing, and changing of curtains.
- Discharge/infectious bed cleaning after hours in PACU
- Assist health care professionals in provision of patient care associated with operating theatres, such as transporting, manual handling and positioning of patients in a caring manner that maintains dignity of the patient.
- Collection and delivery of blood products, specimens for blood bank and pathology departments when required.
- Assist other Theatre staff in emergency situations and as appropriate.
- Participate in in-service education and on the job training and mentoring of Theatre Porters and Patient Support Officers in operating theatre procedures.
- Operate a range of basic equipment for which training has been provided, and not performed by other specific staff categories.
- Undertake ancillary tasks that may arise and act with due discretion to resolve issues in the absence to direct supervision.
- Comply with and utilise procedures, policies, regulations, and standards which impact upon the position, including contemporary human resource management requirements and practices, such as workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination policies.
- Rotational shifts e.g. (day, evening & night), 7 - day roster including weekends and public holidays may apply depending on shift and area rostered.
