Patient Support Officer

Provide efficient and effective services within the Queensland Childrens Hospital and surrounding facilities - Centre for Children’s Health Research (CCHR), Bank Building, Queensland Childrens Hospital Energy Plant (QCHEP) This role will provide a range of tasks in both clinical and non-clinical areas, including but not limited to cleaning, porterage, waste, and sustainability services. Deliver a high level of customer service, demonstrating understanding, empathy, patience, and a positive attitude.

Role Details
- Cleaning duties (including infectious environments) may include cleaning tasks such as cleaning high and low, including, walls, windows, ceiling, furniture, and fittings and sweeping, dusting, vacuuming, and buffing/scrubbing etc.
- Undertake general and periodic cleaning of all clinical and non-clinical areas within QCH and surrounding facilities, ensuring that tasks are performed in accordance with Infection Control Guidelines and the Strategic Operational Services Unit (SOSU)
- Undertake specific tasks within the facility which may include discharge bed making, remove and replace curtains.
- Assist clinical staff in the positioning of patients utilising appropriate patient handling techniques and undertaking the task under the direction and supervision of a clinical staff member, such as lifting, turning, and mobilising patients.
- Assist healthcare professionals in the provision of patient care work associated with the delivery of clinical support services by performing a range of basic non-professional tasks and transporting of patients under clinical direction from one area to another using bed, trolley, or wheelchair.
- Removal and transportation of general/clinical and recyclable waste
- Transportation of clean linen imprest trolleys to designated areas and removal and transportation of soiled linen.
- Managing CELS activities
- Transport medical and other equipment throughout the facility utilising appropriate equipment and manual handling techniques.
- Check and maintain portable medial gas cylinder supplies around the facility using the correct equipment and manual handling techniques for the task, as per safe handling workplace health and safety and industry protocols.
- Handling and transfer of deceased patients from wards/units to the hospital mortuary.
- Participate in quality improvement activities.
- Maintain the health care environment as per the Strategic Operational Services Unit (SOSU) ensuring all occupational health and safety obligations are observed.
- Role specific training will be provided for all outlined responsibilities, including but not limited to cleaning, porterage, waste, and sustainability services.
- Rotational shifts e.g. (day, evening & night), 7 - day roster including weekends and public holidays may apply depending on shift and area rostered.
