This position of Staff Specialist (Paediatrics) will provide specialist consultant developmental paediatric services to the eCYMHS program. You will have the level skills and expertise to work across the range of regional community CYMHS and headspace centres and to provide high level clinical developmental paediatric advice to optimise assessment and treatment of children/adolescents and their families who access these services.

About the Team
The electronic Child and Youth Mental Health Service (eCYMHS) provides a specialist paediatric telepsychiatry network to specific rural and remote CYMHS clinics across Queensland. eCYMHS provides access to specialist mental health services for children, adolescents, and their families as close to home as practicable. The eCYMHS program is delivered through Children's Health Queensland's Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CHQ CYMHS) based in Brisbane.
The eCYMHS team provides clinical assessments, case review, treatment planning, therapeutic sessions, discipline-specific assessments and interventions via a multidisciplinary team, with interagency collaboration as appropriate. The services include weekly videoconference case reviews and face to face sessions, outreach visits and interface with local GP and community service providers. There is also a focus on targeted community based educational and professional development for clinicians and health professionals.
eCYMHS has been allocated psychiatry workforce funding under Better Care Together to work in partnership with applicable Hospital and Health Services (HHSs) to deliver the Queensland contribution to the headspace. This role works alongside the HHS dedicated, specialist mental health, alcohol and other drug (MHAOD) clinicians who provide consultation liaison and clinical in reach services to dedicated headspace centres in regional Queensland.
About the Role
- Availability to conduct developmental paediatric assessments of children and adolescents, and their families
- Conduct regular developmental paediatric reviews of children and adolescents across eCYMHS
- Availability to conduct second opinions and complex case reviews for children and adolescents referred to eCYMHS
- Manage medication regimes and review physical observations of children and adolescents within eCYMHS, in conjunction with the child or adolescent's treating child and adolescent psychiatrist working in eCYMHS, and/or other treating specialists and/or the GP
- Demonstrate clinical leadership and advocacy for the mental health needs of children, adolescents and their carers with relevant agencies state-wide
- Contribute to the development of clinical practice procedures and protocols for eCYMHS
- Liaison with other treating specialists, GP's, hospitals, private practitioners and community case managers of children and adolescents referred to eCYMHS
- Provide expert developmental paediatric advice/consultation and work collaboratively with eCYMHS staff members to provide multi-disciplinary assessment and intervention for children, adolescents and their families/carers
- Provide specialist developmental paediatric knowledge and skill into team training and continuing professional development activities to contribute to the knowledge and skills of the multi-disciplinary team at eCYMHS
- Develop, implement and evaluate quality activities in clinical management and mental health practice to continually improve the care of children, young people and their families/carers accessing the service
- Participate in evaluation and research activities
- Provide training and support to all multi-disciplinary staff in eCYMHS and training and supervision to medical students and registrars as delegated by the Medical Director
- Provide expert/specialised education, consultation and training for the multidisciplinary team
- Assist in leading quality activities and/or research to improve clinical practice within CHQ CYMHS, and on a broader level as appropriate.
