About the Role

In keeping with the standard requirements of The Nurse Manager (NM) role, the NM Surgical Planning and Access (SPA) provides coordination and guidance in relation to nursing management practises by enabling and supporting operational and strategic organisational/divisional goals.  The role works in collaboration with the Surgical Access Coordinator in leading the Surgical Planning and Access team to deliver and efficient and effective management system for accessing and planning surgery across CHQ.  This will require working with senior nursing peers in specialty services and administration leads with the division.

This role also works to deliver operational surgical activity outcomes in line with the Department of Health performance objectives devolved to Children's Health Queensland that may change from time to time in response to internal and external factors.  As an influential role within the Division of Surgery & Perioperative Services, the NM SPA, will lead to the development, implementation, and continual improvement of strategies in partnership with the Surgical Access Coordinator. The role will collaboratively oversee the systems and processes that plan access and surgical/procedural lists for all surgical specialties in keeping with defined timelines and scheduled access.  It is expected the role will build and foster high-performing systems of surgical access and planning that is focused on all aspects of the surgical journey from long-term, complex patient/family pre-operative optimisation and coordination to the management of daily perioperative challenges.
