About the Team

The Forensic Child and Youth Mental Health Service is a specialist Program within the Children's Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service and is also part of the broader Queensland Forensic Mental Health Service. Forensic CYMHS provides assessment and treatment services to young people with mental health issues and significant behavioural disturbance that have resulted/or place them at elevated risk of involvement with the criminal justice system.

About the Role

  • Deliver high level clinical services in accordance with the discipline specific Code of Ethics and the National Practice Standards for the Mental Health Workforce.
  • Demonstrate high level knowledge and skill in a speciality of Forensic Mental Health practice.
  • Apply independent professional judgment, based on valid and reliable evidence, to a complex caseload to continuously contribute to the development of best practice services within the child and youth forensic mental health team.
  • Provide high level specialised forensic mental health advice and risk assessment reports and work collaboratively with team members to provide multi-disciplinary intervention for service consumers and their stakeholders.
  • Provide high-level knowledge and skill to team training and continuing professional development activities to contribute to the knowledge and skills of the forensic mental health team.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate within the service unit, quality activities and forensic mental health practice to continually improve the care of young offenders with severe and complex mental health problems.
  • Provide supervision, training and support in a specialist area to staff and training and supervision to students as delegated by the relevant Discipline Director.
  • Provide orientation, ongoing training and support, mentoring and clinical practice supervision where required to less experienced forensic mental health clinicians in collaboration with the Team Leader and Consultant Psychiatrist.
