About the Team
The Infection Management and Prevention Service (IMPS) provides infection control clinical leadership and expertise for patients, families and staff within Children's Health Queensland. This is undertaken through the Infection Control Program. The program is based on the pillars of infection prevention and control management, clinical practice, education, consultancy and evaluation (surveillance, audit and accreditation survey), in line with relevant policy, legislation and safety standards. The service regularly collaborates with the multidisciplinary paediatric specialty teams, families and partners.
The IMPS team consists currently of 1 CNC, 5 FTE clinical nurses and a part time administration officer.
About the Role
The purpose of this role is to provide clinical expertise and consultancy through advanced clinical leadership relevant to the speciality of infection prevention and control. The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) is manager of this service and works both as clinical expert and manager for those within the team. The role contributes significantly to National Safety Quality Healthcare Standard (NSQHS) 3 for CHQ and provides infection management and prevention expertise across CHQ as well as contributing to state and national forums in relation to paediatric infection prevention and control.
- Advanced level of autonomous infection prevention and control clinical and professional practice and representation at various internal and external forums.
- Development, implementation and evaluation of an Infection Prevention and Control Program for CHQ HHS.
- Advanced level of decision making (in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team).
- Undertake operational leadership.
- Apply professional and clinical expertise in collaboration with nursing and multi-disciplinary stakeholders.
- Responsible for enacting strategies that support a work-based culture that promotes and supports education, learning, research, and workforce development.
- Operational and Professional Manager responsibilities for leading a small team of Clinical Nurses and an Administration Officer
- Provide (paediatric) infection prevention and control clinical expertise and representation at HHS, State and National level.
- Participate with and manage Infection Program Service Improvement and Risk Reduction Projects and initiatives.
- Participate in HHS strategic, clinical and collaborative opportunities
