About the Team

The Patient Support Services team is comprised of seven essential units that work collaboratively to ensure the smooth operation and safety of the healthcare environment. These units include Cleaning, which maintains hygiene and infection control standards; Linen, responsible for the supply and management of hospital textiles; Waste, which handles the safe and efficient disposal of various waste streams; and Porterage, which supports the movement of patients, equipment, and supplies throughout the facility. The Help Desk serves as a central communication hub, coordinating service requests and support tasks. CELS (Central Equipment Loan Service) provides and manages the distribution of medical equipment to support clinical care. Lastly, Security ensures the safety and protection of patients, staff, and visitors. Together, these units form a cohesive team dedicated to supporting patient care and hospital operations.

About the Role

In this role you will coach and support others to deliver for children, young people and families (Leader of Others) in accordance with the Children's Health Queensland Leadership Excellence Framework and the Queensland Public Service and the CHQ values. Your contribution will include:

  • Coordinate and oversee Patient Support Services (PSS) staff to ensure all portering, linen, CELS and helpdesk services are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant standards, workplace health and safety requirements, risk management principles, and current legislative obligations.
  • Provide portering support when required, such as during busy periods, to assist new staff, or to cover team breaks. This includes work in infectious Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, positioning and transporting patients, collecting soiled linen and delivering clean linen, transporting medical equipment, collecting specimens, supporting helicopter arrivals, assisting with the help desk, and working in specialist areas such as theatres.
  • Conduct regular rounding throughout the shift to provide hands-on support, monitor task execution, and ensure high standards of portering, linen, CELS and helpdesk services are maintained.
