About the Team
The Genetic Counselling Consultation Liaison (GCCL) service introduced at Children's Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service (HHS) represents an innovative strategy to embed genomic medicine deeply into paediatric care. This service provides in-house access to genetic counselling for patients and their families who are cared for by a treating CHQ service, particularly those navigating through the complexities of genetic disorders and cancers.
About the Role
- Provide fundamental genetic counselling services including genetic risk assessments, facilitate genomic testing, and provide psychosocial support to patients and families, maintaining a high standard of clinical practice and ethics with the support and under supervision of supervisors.
- Support the genetic counselling team in the delivery of high-quality services, ensuring patient and family needs are met with empathy and professionalism.
- Help create and update genetic counselling protocols and educational materials, supporting CHQ HHS's mission to improve genomic understanding among healthcare providers and recipients.
- Engage in multidisciplinary meetings and case conferences, adding value to patient care plans and ensuring cohesive service delivery.
- Document genetic counselling sessions and follow-up actions accurately and promptly to ensure continuity of care.
- Offer empathetic support within the genetic counselling team, focusing on delivering a responsive service that addresses the complex needs of patients and families.
- Pursue continuous learning and attend professional development workshops and seminars, keeping pace with the latest in genomic healthcare.
- Support service improvement under senior guidance to enhance the patient experience and streamline care pathways.
