As a clinical coder, you will assist in completing monthly clinical coding requirements during times of higher demand, to cover planned or unplanned leave and/or to cover areas of workforce shortage across a range of Queensland Hospitals and Health Services. You will assist the Professional Lead of Clinical Coding and Senior Clinical Coder with a variety of state-wide initiatives in the areas of clinical coding and coding audit and collaboration and undertake auditing activities, data verification and clinical liaison to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of inpatient morbidity data. You will also provide support to other clinical coding staff through advice, guidance and mentoring.
What you'll do
- Clinical coding for the State HIM and Clinical Coding team (see Role Description for more information.
- Liaise with clinicians to clarify documentation in the clinical record to assist in timely and accurate code assignment.
- Under the direction of the Professional Lead of Clinical Coding and the Senior Clinical Coder, guide and mentor the clinical coders in accordance with organisational goals, guidelines and standards.
- Assist the Professional Lead of Clinical Coding and the Senior Clinical Coder with closing the end of month data submission.
- Assist with the coordination of coding student placements.
- Assist in training and supervision of new and existing Coders in accordance with the Coder Education Plan and respond to coding queries at a professionally specialised level.
About you
Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification in the Classification of Diseases (ICD-10-AM) with the appropriate registration authority, including any endorsements to be provided to the employing service prior to the commencement of duty.
- Successful completion of a certified Clinical Classification course; or Bachelor of Health Information Management or equivalent; and experience of clinical coding in a Tertiary healthcare setting.
- Minimum of 2-year full-time coding experience is highly desirable.
- May be required to travel a minimum of one week per month.
