What you'll do

  • Implementation of the First Nations workforce plan.
  • Provide high-level strategic advice to the Chief Nurse Officer, First Nations Health Office (FNHO) and the Office of Rural and Remote Health on strategies to increase inclusiveness, implement co-design into nurse-led models of care and to address systemic and institutional racism.
  • Provide advice and lead the development of a governance framework that will support the Office of the Chief Nurse Officer to drive strategies to transition First Nations nurses from student to professional.
  • Identify and assist to develop and embed programs to encourage First Nations nursing recruitment and retention in the Queensland Health Workforce across all levels.

About you

The First Nations Nursing Director is a registered nurse who has delegated responsibilities in relation to this role to support the Chief Nurse Officer. You will demonstrate clinical, management and leadership expertise, experience, and aptitude to provide advanced corporate support to optimise nursing practice and services. You will be responsible for strategic leadership in planning, coordination, formulation, and direction of policies in relation to First Nation nursing strategic initiatives. You will demonstrate expert and comprehensive knowledge of contemporary nursing practice and co-design of services that assist to drive health equity and linkages and partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Services (ATSICCHS).
