About the Role
As the Principal Advisor, (IEAL/D) you will be responsible for:
- providing schools in the region with targeted professional development, resources and advice to support the implementation of the (Prep) P-10 Australian Curriculum and the State Schools' EAL/D Statement of the P-12 Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Framework for IEAL/D learners.
- Provide leadership, information and culturally secure approaches to support and embed First Nations languages in schools.
- Strengthen relationships and partnerships with First Nations families, communities and stakeholders to support language engagement and practices.
Responsibilities include:
- Have knowledge and understanding of the historical impacts of laws and legislation on Queensland's First Nations peoples and the evolution of Aboriginal English, by genuine engagement and participation in opportuniites to embed languages across teaching and learning.
- Build personal relationships and a knowledge base to foster an understanding of factors that influence Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander language ecologies in the region, and the linguistic repertoires of families and students, and promote the ethos of the State Schools Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Languages Statement.
- Increase the skills and uptake of our workforce to value and recognise students home languages.
About You:
- The Principal Advisor will bring demonstrated leadership, a strong communicator skillset and demonstrated facilitation skills.
- The Principal Advisor will possess the abilty to effectively manage timeframes and outcomes relating to the position. A significant proportion of the duties of this position involve policy and program development, direct communication with support services for Aboriginal persons and Torres Strait Islander persons and positive engagement within State Schools.
Mandatory Requirements:
- You must be a permanent employee of the department with a substantive teaching or classified officer role employed under Teaching in State Education Award – State 2016, have current full registration as a teacher and should be aware that temporary internal moves for the purposes of the department's payroll processes are referred to as internal secondments.
- Employees' engaged temporarily as Education Officer - Special Duties have a requirement of 36¼ hours per week attendance and arrangements as outlined in clause 5.12 of the Department of Education State School Teachers' Certified Agreement 2022
- When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.
