Unit Support Officer - Bunyaville Environmental Education Centre

We are seeking a self-motivated, energetic person who is able to be flexible and work positively within our small team at Bunyaville Environmental Education Centre. The Unit Support Officer mainly looks after the school grounds, sets up programs, supports instruction of programs and maintains/creates physical resources. If you enjoy working in the outdoors and with students (Kindergarten to Year 12), and have experience in facilities, maintenance or trades this might be the job for you.
This is a temporary part-time position of 4 days per week (Monday-Thursday 7.6hrs/day) at 60.8 Hours and 0.80 FTE per fortnight, with an immediate start until 02 April 2026, unless otherwise determined.

About the Role
Bunyaville Environmental Education Centre is an innovative and dynamic Department of Education Centre set in the tranquil eucalyptus forest of the Bunyaville Conservation Park in north-west Brisbane. Our dedicated and highly skilled teachers deliver environmental education programs to students from Kindy-Year 12 at their school, at our Centre, or within the Bunyaville Conservation Park. Through day visit programs we primarily teach Science, Geography and the cross curricular priorities of Sustainability and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures. Your main role as the Unit Support Officer is to support the teachers to deliver these programs and to maintain the grounds and equipment to a very high standard.
The Unit Support Officer position is diverse with a range of tasks you will be responsible for; these include but are not limited to:
- Preparation and set-up of resources for day-to-day program delivery.
- Clean-up and pack-up of resources after day-to-day program delivery.
- Maintenance and storage of program resources and equipment.
- Maintain centre grounds and facilities, undertake improvement activities, effect maintenance and adjustment to plant and equipment required for the normal functioning of the centre, assist teachers, instructors in delivery of outdoor and environmental education programs, and maintain the centre's buildings, equipment and surroundings to a safe and healthy condition.
- Emergency and routine maintenance of equipment including minor maintenance of machinery, scientific and audio visual equipment.
- Grounds maintenance and improvement including paths, posts and other fixtures, maintenance of garden areas and rubbish removal and recycling.
- Assistance with education programs including deliver practical instruction and demonstration to students under the supervision of qualified teaching personnel, prop construction, monitor consumables and make purchase recommendations to the principal.
- Planning and development of natural learning areas.
- Office assistance including answering the telephone, certificate preparation, photocopying and booklet preparation, art work and video filming.
About You
Ideally, the successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:
- Knowledge of grounds care and equipment maintenance (Trade qualification preferred)
- Flexibility, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills
- Strong interpersonal and outstanding communication skills
- Ability to work within a team and independently
- Ability to work within a forest environment
What you need to succeed:
- It is highly desirable for the successful applicant to posses a manual drivers license.
- Standard hours of work will be 7am to 4:30pm
