Samford State School is a warm and community-focused primary school nestled in the scenic Samford Valley. We’re looking for a passionate Youth Worker to join our team in 2025 to support students from Prep to Year 6 in developing strong social and emotional skills. Our school is committed to lifting educational outcomes through a focus on English and Maths, fostering inclusive learning environments, and using data to guide proactive student support.

About the school:

Opened in 1872, Samford State School remained relatively small until the past fifteen years brought a steady increase in families moving into the area. Currently, there are 824 children enrolled in the school. Notwithstanding its size, the close-knit country feel of school and community has endured.

Your role:

As the Youth Worker you will liaise between students, school personnel, and the home parents/guardians of any students who encounter educational, social, emotional or behaviour problems.

Your role will include:

  • Being part of the professional team working with the school and the community and liaise with students, teachers, parents, guidance officers, special needs teacher, administrative officers, officers of welfare agencies and other government departments.
  • Forge links between the school and families of students who show persistent absence from schooling to encourage students' continuous attendance at school and to assist students determine future educational requirements.
  • Identify and provide appropriate assistance to students experiencing difficulties at school and/or at home
  • Contribute to a positive, caring and supportive school image in the community.
  • Developing and implementing programs dealing with social skills/assertiveness/self-esteem/etc.
  • Liaising between school community members such as student, fellow students, teachers, administration, parents and Guidance Officer in understanding strategies to regain more positive educational outcomes for the individual.
