The Montessori classroom is a diverse, inclusive and purpose-built environment with trained staff where adolescents can naturally move towards abstract ways of thinking. The Montessori philosophy for educating young people is carried out through the Montessori-specific approach to pedagodgy.

Montessori at MSHS offers a unique way of learning and engaging with the Australian Curriculum.  Based on the principle that students are naturally curious learners, the Montessori Method enables in-depth exploration of areas of individual interest encouraging a high degree of autonomy. Learning in Montessori is designed to foster natural growth and independence as students learn key concepts in ways that connect their learning in authentic ways to the world around them.  Students are encouraged to stretch themselves, extending their learning by taking responsible risks in a safe and supportive community of learners.

Students can either access the Montessori program full-time or part-time choosing mainstream electives, HPE and LOTE in Junior Secondary or General Subjects and/or Certificate courses in Senior Secondary. Montessori students study the core subjects: English, Mathematics, Science and Humanities while still engaging in Electives.  They work in blocks of time to allow deep learning and understanding to occur within a
meaningful context. The program is aligned to the Australian Curriculum combined with the Montessori principles of autonomy, curiosity, self-direction and independence.
