We are seeking a Head of Department (Secondary) - Junior Secondary to join our leadership team. This role is offered on a temporary full-time basis, until 09 November 2025, unless otherwise determined.

Their key role is ensuring a successful transition to high school and that junior secondary students are well supported so that they can be Thriving Learners.

As the Head of Department, you will take a lead role in leading Thriving Learner initiatives to improve attendance, effort and behaviour; co-lead our Behaviour Intervention Room; lead year level teams to deliver pastoral care with a focus on Reboot social emotional learning; lead "Quest" extension program and specialist programs in Music and STEM - ensuring quality pedagogy. Your role will be complimented in knowledge of trauma-informed practices, restorative practices and PBL.

About Deception Bay State High School

Deception Bay State High School, established in 1992, is a co-educational state school situated just north of Brisbane. About the Role

An opportunity exists for an Acting Head of Department Junior Secondary. As part of the Positive Education leadership team, this position requires leadership of the school's strategic agenda to engage junior secondary students through age-appropriate teaching and learning through age-appropriate teaching and supportive classroom environments. HOD-JS leads extension and specialist programs. The position also entails leadership of the Junior Secondary (Year 7 - 9) Year Level Leaders; enhancing transition from primary and building a strong junior secondary identity and voice. The school is seeking a skilled, dedicated and passionate Head of Department that will connect with junior school students, build positive relationships with fellow staff, embrace the school culture and value add to this vibrant school.
