About the Role:

Based in Metropolitan North Regional Office (Nundah and North Lakes), the Senior Social Worker roles are to support learning and engagement of young people in their educational pathway to ensure they reach their full potential and maximise their learning in alignment with the Equity and Excellence strategy. Working as a key member of a multidisciplinary team you will be supporting and leading case management. Key to this role is working with school leadership and case management teams in schools to build their capacity to provide differentiated support to students. Building partnerships to refer and work collaboratively with external agencies to support the student, their families and their school community will be a key component of the role. These roles will be targeted to P - 4 Primary School and Years 5 - 9 Primary and High School contexts.

Responsibilities include:

  • Respond to the needs of the identified young people and families to assist with engagement and personalised learning plans in partnership with school communities and external stakeholders.
  • Build resilience through facilitation of referrals to other allied health professionals, and service and care coordination for the purpose of assisting young persons and their family's wellbeing and mental health.
  • Provide professional mental health and social welfare assessment and interventions and follow up support of the identified young people and families as required.
  • Provide leadership within a multi-disciplinary team in a regional setting, providing support to schools' community and inter agency networks relevant to the needs of the young people.
  • Engage in administration tasks, prepare and present papers and reports relating to the role to school and regional leadership team on the progress and outcomes of student engagement.

As a Senior Social Worker, you will report to the identified manager of your multi-disciplinary team for operational and administrative matters. Appropriate arrangements for external clinical supervision will be made.

A mandatory requirement of this role:

  • Possession of tertiary qualifications in Social Work and eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)

Desirable Experience for this role:

  • Demonstrated experience in complex case management, multi-discplinary and leading stakeholder engagement groups in schools
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of social work within a school setting, and/or Child Safety environment
  • Experience providing therapeutic support and intervention to young people with complex presentations regarding disability, mental health and complex behavioural concerns as significant barriers to engagement in school
  • Supporting families and carers experiencing complex or challenging psychosocial concerns including child protection, domestic and family violence and disrupted attachment/trauma and the impact on education
