The Gap State High School is seeking a passionate educator to join our Student Services team as a Head of Department (locally known as a Head of Year) with position beginning on January 22, 2026,
for 1 term with the possibility of extension.

This role:
The role is 0.5FTE Head of Department - Student Services and the other 0.5FTE will be negotiated with the succesful candidate.
As Head of Department - Student Services, you will:
- Provide leadership and guidance for the implementation of innovative measures aimed at improving student learning outcomes and engagement in school, ensuring quality learning outcomes for all students.
- Work within a team of support staffthat responds to the diverse needs of our learners. By allowing for personalised instruction, adaptable groupings, and varied teaching approaches, this model will foster engagement, inclusion, and wellbeing for all students.
- Monitor students' individual performance and behaviour and develop and implement intervention strategies where necessary.
- Communicate and work with parents, staff, higher education institutes and State Schools Division to develop strategies to improve learning outcomes, student achievements and attendance.
- Develop and implement community engagement strategies and programs with other organisations, local businesses and not for profit organisations.
- Embed socially just practices in daily school life through leadership in relation to student attendance and improved academic outcomes.
- Understand the legislation and policies that impact on schooling especially in relation to students and staff within the school.
- Manage the human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources of the school department to achieve goals.
