North Lakes State College is seeking a passionate and student-centred Deputy Principal to undertake a short-term leadership opportunity from 8 June to 3 August 2026, backfilling a period of leave.

This role will provide strategic leadership in Year 7 student management, staff and student wellbeing, and junior secondary intervention programs, supporting the College's commitment to inclusive practices and positive outcomes for every student.

Who We Are:

North Lakes State College is seeking an innovative and relational Deputy Principal to join our leadership team. As one of Queensland's largest Prep to Year 12 colleges, we are committed to fostering a culture of high expectations, strong relationships and continuous improvement, ensuring every student is known, supported and challenged to achieve success.

This leadership role includes oversight of the Year 7 cohort, leadership of staff and student wellbeing initiatives, and strategic oversight of the College's junior secondary intervention programs. The successful applicant will play a key role in building a positive and inclusive school culture, supporting students through their transition into secondary schooling, and ensuring targeted supports are in place to maximise engagement, wellbeing and achievement.

In addition to whole-of-college responsibilities, the successful applicant will have specific oversight of student management for Year 7, with a focus on behaviour, engagement and attendance. This role is central to creating strong foundations for students entering junior secondary schooling and strengthening connections between wellbeing, learning and belonging.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Proven leadership in student wellbeing and school improvement.
  • Expertise in implementing proactive and restorative approaches to student engagement and behaviour support.
  • The ability to lead and support wellbeing initiatives for both staff and students.
  • Strong relational, communication and organisational skills.
  • A commitment to inclusive education and improving outcomes for every student.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Leading student engagement, wellbeing and behavioural support processes for the Year 7 cohort.
  • Providing strategic leadership for staff and student wellbeing initiatives across the College.
  • Overseeing junior secondary intervention programs, ensuring targeted supports and strategies are implemented to meet student needs.
  • Working collaboratively with staff, families and external agencies to support positive outcomes for students.
  • Contributing to whole-school improvement through active leadership of wellbeing, inclusion and strategic initiatives.
